School History
Nuttall Middle School was constructed
as a result of a citizens' survey of the schools of Community Unit
#2 in June of 1970. Nuttall Middle School opened in 1972. Nuttall
was designed for the use of middle level students. A middle school
should provide for guidance and direction during the transition
period for students going through puberty, have opportunity for
students to explore many areas of interest, and provide a solid
academic background for future learning experiences. Due to budget
restraints in the late 1970’s, Nuttall Middle School moved
from this philosophy to that of a traditional junior high. During
the late 1980’s, Nuttall Middle School began work towards
transitioning back to the middle school philosophy.
Nuttall Middle School’s philosophy is centered
upon the concept that each student is an individual. All students
are encouraged to develop educationally, socially, physically and
morally to their fullest extent by the staff, school, family, community,
and state using all their attendant resources. Thus, the mission
statement for Nuttall Middle School is “We, the professional
staff of Nuttall Middle School, believe it is our duty to prepare
every child for the future. Our primary mission is the development
of the whole individual through a curriculum that is student centered.” |
