GUIDANCE

Students are encouraged to visit with the counselors for personal guidance and for information on grades, study help, testing programs, and college and scholarship information. The counselors are available to discuss home, school, or social concerns.

GUIDANCE OFFICE SERVICES

Robinson High School offers a large array of guidance and counseling services to all students. These services include, but are not limited to, personal counseling, academic counseling, career counseling, scheduling, and testing services. The guidance department also provides scholarship and other financial information to seniors by announcing scholarships available through the student announcements each morning, participating in the LTC College Fair, hosting a financial aid night, and other activities.

POST-SECONDARY INFORMATION

Students and parents/guardians may find information about post-secondary programs in the Guidance Department. These include two-year and four-year colleges and universities, vocational and technical schools, apprenticeships, and armed forces.

Our Guidance Office has a computer available for students to investigate college information online before and after school, as well as during their activity period. The Guidance Office also keeps applications for most local and state colleges and universities and can request applications for any institution of higher learning. Students may also apply on-line to many of the institutions.

COMMUNICATION

The Guidance Department believes that communication is the key to a students success in the classroom and is in the student's best interest that his or her parent/guardian and the school communicates regularly. E-mails are an effective method of communication. All RHS teachers have e-mail, and their addresses are the same: first initial, last name @roe12.net. Teachers are very conscientious about responding to e-mails, and many parents have found it to be an excellent way to keep track of their child's educational progress.

GRADES

The grading system for Community Unit No. 2 grades 3-12 is based on a 4.0 scholastic system. Letter grades have the following values: A - 4; B - 3; C - 2; D - 1; F - 0; I - Incomplete.

Letter grades will be determined using the following scale:

Grades

District

Grading Scale

Grade Point

Regular Section

"A" Superior 90-100 4.0
"B" Above Average 80-89 3.0
"C" Average 70-79 2.0
"D" Below Average 60-69 1.0
"F" Failing 59- Below 0.0

HONOR ROLL

At the conclusion of the first, second, hird, and fourth quarters, a scholastic Honor Roll will be announced by the school through local news media.

  • Grades and grade point will determine eligibility for honor roll.
  • A student can only have one "C" and still make honor roll.
  • A student must carry a minimum of 4 credits per semester.

High Honors - A student must carry a 4.0 grade point average.
Honors - A student must have at least a 3.0 grade point average.

How Honor Roll is Calculted

The computer calculates and generates a list of Honor Roll students at the end of each quarter grading period. Specifically, the way this works, you take the scores from each quarter are translated from their letter grade into a point value. Scores from pass/fail classes are not considered in the calculations. The point value of each score is multiplied by the number of credits for that course. The credit-weighted point total is added up and divided by the sum of the credits for the classes considered. This produces the Grade Point Average (GPA) for the quarter.

HIGH HONORS = 4.0

HONORS = 3.0 - 3.9
