Meet Mrs. Robinson

DSCF9023.JPGMeet your Teacher!

Hi!  My name is Mrs. Robinson and I am going to be your Kindergarten teacher.  This is my 8th year teaching Kindergarten in Robinson, but it’s my 12th year at Washington School.  I grew up in Robinson, so this is the school that I went to Kindergarten in too!

I graduated from Eastern Illinois University in 2002 with a bachelors degree in Early Childhood Education.  In 2008, I earned my masters degree in Educational Administration.  Since I was a little girl, I have always known that I wanted to be a teacher.  I can’t think of anything more rewarding than working with Kindergartners.  I really love everything about being a teacher!

When I am not teaching or planning fun things for us to do at school, I enjoy reading, swimming, shopping, cooking, being with my friends and family, and most of all, spending time with my husband Shane and our two little girls.

Mrs. Robinson’s Class

Attendance

We believe that good attendance and being prompt is very important for academic success.  If your child must miss school, please report his or her absence to the office before 9:00 am.  Our daily work is designed for the classroom, therefore we do not send much make-up work home.

Birthdays

Birthdays are so exciting for kindergartners!  If you choose, you may drop off treats in the office for your child’s special day.  Please do not bring them to our classroom.  We will fit them into our day as time allows.  All treats MUST be store bought.  Please consider a healthy snack such as cheese and crackers, fruit cups, or veggies and dip.  Whether or not you choose to send a snack, your child’s birthday will be acknowledged and celebrated in our room.  Please do not feel obligated to send treats.

Box Tops

Our school participates in the Box Tops for Education program.  Please help us by collecting Box Tops and sending them to school with your child.  Last year’s class raised almost $200 for our classroom!

Clothing

Please dress your child in comfortable clothing that is appropriate for play.  Your child will get dirty and stained since we often work with messy materials.

Communication

In order to make school a positive experience, I believe in keeping an open line of communication with your family.  Writing in your child’s planner is the best way to communicate with me.  Email is also great, but it isn’t always reliable!  If you email me and I do not respond within a day, please call me or write a note in the planner.

Discipline Plan

An important part of school is learning to make good choices.  We will spend a lot of time discussing and practicing appropriate school behaviors.  I definitely want to set all students up for success!

I use a “stoplight” behavior plan.  Each child will have a pocket with his/her name on it and three cards inside: a green, a yellow, and a red card.  All students will start their day on the green card.  For most behavior infractions, students will receive a warning regarding their unacceptable behavior.  If the behavior continues, he/she will move his/her card to yellow and later to red if necessary.  Some of these moves may result in a consequence such as a loss of recess time.  More serious infractions may be referred to Mr. Stark

I will oftentimes contact you regarding behavior.  I may write a note in the planner or give you a call if it is warranted.  However, do not expect communication for minor issues.  As always, contact me if you have any questions or concerns with discipline.

Grading/Assessment

Our work rubric is as follows:

            + means “I did extra!”

/ means “I did my job!”

            - means “I need to do more.”

Lunch Money

Lunch accounts can be managed online using the Skyward system.  Accounts are found under Food Services in the side menu.  You will need your username and password that was given to you at registration.  You may also put money in your child’s lunch/breakfast account by sending a check to school.  If you choose to send a check, please put it in an envelope or Ziploc bag and STAPLE it in your child’s planner so that we are sure to find it;.

Planners/Folders

We expect each student to take their folders home and bring them back to school every day.  All announcements and other communication from school will be placed in these folders.  It is VERY IMPORTANT to check the planners/folders daily.  If you need to write me a note please write it in the planner.

Rest Time

There will be a 20 to 30 minute quiet time daily.  Each student will need a towel to lay on, which will be stored in the designated plastic container.  Please be sure your child’s towel will fit.  Towels will be sent home occasionally to be washed.

Transportation

Pick-Ups:  Please wait for your child in the gym.  A teacher will escort all the kindergarten pick-ups to the gym.      *For safety reasons, please do not come to our room at the end of the day to pick up your child.

Bus Riders:  Riding the bus is an exciting part of the day for most students.  Our transportation staff is very caring and competent.  They take extra good care of our little kindergarteners.  You can help make things run smoothly by seeing that your child knows the name of his or her bus driver and the bus number.  Bus routes take a bit longer at the beginning of the year and during bad weather.

Transportation Changes

If you have a change to your child’s normal transportation routine, please write a note in the planner or call the school office at 544-2233.  We will not make changes unless we have a note or receive a call.
