Jefferson School

Jefferson School was built in 1885 and closed in January 1967 when the new Washington School opened. Jefferson School was originally known as North Side School.

Old Lincoln School

Lincoln School, originally known as South Side School, was built in 1885. The original Lincoln School was also closed in January 1967 when Washington School opened to students.

Washington School was originally conceived as a two story K-8 building with 36 classrooms and approximately 109,000 square feet of space. This is an architect's drawing of the proposed building.

Washington Elementary School

This photo was taken in December 1966 as the new building was being prepared for students. The building opened in January 1967.

Washington School Timeline

  • January 1964 - proposal with architect's drawing presented to the Board of Education for a new K-8 school building
  • December 1964 - a special election is held to vote on the construction of Washington School (Yes votes=1,102, No votes=643)
  • 1965 - land for Washington School is annexed into the City of Robinson
  • March 1965 - bonds are issued for the $960,000 needed to build Washington School
  • January 1967 - classes begin at Washington School
